my story and direction

Love, then disaster, now realisation

Speaking to groups, sharing stories and realisations about life is a passion for me. I love the process of examining human existence in search of potential insight into how to live an aware and valuable life. How to simply, be in it.

The realisations born from my story may provide value and insight into the journey of others.
  • Challenge is opportunity
  • Perspective directly contributes to reality
  • Your personal experience is completely unique
  • The task of life may be to simply be in it

My Story

When I was young and naively courageous I met a girl called Stacy. The buoyant nature of our relationship sent our lives off in an unexpected and delightful direction. We ricocheted across the globe and eventually managed to find enough recklessness and trust in our hearts to let go and find out. We married under a mountain near her home in Montana in 2008.

In less than a year Stacy was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. A progressive, degenerative and terminal bastard which radically redirected our lives for a second time.

Stacy experienced an incredible three and a half years of challenge, opportunity, experience and value. Her suffering was inhuman, the glorious complexity of life surrounded her and the people whose lives glanced by.

I journeyed with her in the ragged role of husband, friend, full time carer and emotional and verbal punching bag.

My time looking directly into the face of misery, endurance, courage, love and ludicrous existence forced upon me a collection of realisations. Concepts, ideas and seemingly broad reaching truths were furiously impressed into the fabric of my understanding. Realisations that continue to hold true beyond the cauldron of Stacy's disaster, and realisations that I don't believe would have become clear to me without the tortured experience I witnessed.

In my work as a high school teacher I share lessons and ideas from curriculum and personal experience to help foster the growth of informed and aware young people. Spending time thinking about and sharing ideas related to how to live a valuable life is something we can all find time to experience.
